Stepped depths accommodate different water plants while maintaining stable conditions in this unfiltered pond, shown just after planting took place. A combination of ornamental and native plants of more restrained growth balances attractiveness and benefit to wildlife. The cobble beach softens the edges, gives access to amphibians and birds, and will become partly camouflaged by overhanging plants.
